July 14, 2023 TOWN OF ENFIELD JOB DESCRIPTION SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT CHILD DAY CARE CENTER ACCOUNTING CLERK GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Responsible for routine accounting of fiscal records for the Enfield Day Care Center in a format defined by the department.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general direction of the Executive Director or his/her designee who issues instructions and reviews work for conformance to instructions.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Regular & punctual attendance; may do all or part of the following:
compiles and analyzes statistical information; is responsible for bookkeeping, billing and collection duties; makes bank deposits and other financial transactions as authorized.
Operates computer terminal and makes data entries in accounting records for center; maintains summary of cash transactions and accounting files; types forms, reports, letters, memoranda, etc.
as required; answers inquiries in person or over telephone; operates modern office equipment such as computer terminal, calculator, photocopying machine, typewriter.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists in the preparation of the budget and expenditures of the division; performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Dependable person with the ability to work accurately and independently; knowledge of principles and practices of governmental accounting and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations; some knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations controlling budgetary and fiscal record keeping; knowledge of modern practices, procedures and equipment; skill in operating computer terminal; ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions; ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and follow departmental methods and rules of performing duties; ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately and with reasonable speed; ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements; ability to keep records, to assemble and organize data and to prepare reports from such records.
Must be proficient on the computer.
Must be honest, tactful and have a neat appearance.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma (GED) and four (4) years experience in bookkeeping/accounting work utilizing computerized accounting systems or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
